Cheyenne, Wyoming – Residents across Wyoming and Nebraska should brace for temperatures that could challenge long-standing record highs this weekend and into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in both states are expected to soar, with highs in some cities pushing near or past historic records. In Wyoming, Cheyenne could see a high of 81°F Sunday, surpassing the current record of 83°F set in 1962. Meanwhile, Rawlins is forecast to hit 80°F Monday, nearing the 82°F record from 1960. Laramie is also on track to reach 78°F Monday, challenging the 81°F record from 1966.

Across the border in Nebraska, temperatures are expected to climb even higher. Chadron could hit 92°F on Monday, edging out the current record of 90°F from 1966. Alliance, Scottsbluff, and other areas are also in line to experience record-breaking heat, with highs surpassing records set in the early 1900s.

For those in affected areas, it’s essential to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours. Make sure air conditioning is working and that pets have access to cool areas. These unusually warm temperatures come at a time when many areas are transitioning into summer, and precautions are advised.

With heat advisories potentially extending beyond Monday, the National Weather Service will continue monitoring these rising temperatures and issue updates as necessary.
