Nashville, Tennessee – Temperatures will surge toward the mid-80s by 3 p.m. Thursday, pushing drivers along I-40 and I-65 into near-record warmth during the afternoon commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, highs will run 10 to 20 degrees above early March averages through the end of the week. Thursday and Friday are the warmest days, with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s to mid-80s across Middle Tennessee. Several long-standing daily records could be tied or broken, especially Friday afternoon.
The heat builds under partly sunny skies before rain chances increase late week. While no severe weather is expected at this time, scattered showers and thunderstorms become more likely beginning Friday night and expanding through the weekend. Rain probabilities rise significantly by Saturday afternoon and evening, when coverage may become widespread across Davidson, Williamson and Rutherford counties.
Drivers along I-24 and Briley Parkway should prepare for wet pavement and reduced visibility during heavier showers this weekend. Gusty winds may also develop ahead of approaching systems, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated during peak warmth Thursday and Friday and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles, where temperatures can climb rapidly even in early spring.
Additional updates are expected as rain chances increase into Saturday and Sunday, with unsettled conditions lingering into early next week.
