Nashville, TN – Nashville is preparing for a dangerously hot weekend, with the National Weather Service forecasting afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid-90s on Saturday. The heat index, however, is expected to soar into the 110s, reaching a scorching 112 degrees in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service Nashville, the oppressive heat is due to high humidity levels combined with already elevated temperatures. This has prompted a Heat Advisory for the majority of the mid-state region, including Clarksville, Lafayette, Columbia, and Tullahoma, where heat indexes are projected to be 100 degrees or higher.
Meteorologists warn that the extreme heat poses significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions. It is advised to stay indoors, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
Fortunately, relief is on the horizon. A frontal passage on Sunday is expected to bring cooler temperatures, with highs dropping to the mid-80s. There is also a 40% chance of showers on Sunday, which could provide some temporary respite from the heat.
The cooler trend will continue into Monday, with temperatures expected to reach a high of 85 degrees. However, the heat is forecasted to return by the middle of next week, with highs in the low 90s on Tuesday and Wednesday.
