Naperville, IL – Naperville and DeKalb saw over an inch of rainfall as overnight storms swept across northern Illinois late Thursday into Friday morning. The storms brought temporary relief to the region’s ongoing drought, which has lingered throughout October.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Naperville received 1.20 inches of rain, while DeKalb measured 1.10 inches by Friday morning. The rainfall totals helped replenish local soil moisture, offering some brief respite from the dry conditions. However, forecasters warn that dry weather is expected to return by next week.

While beneficial, the rainfall will not provide a long-term solution to the drought. NWS meteorologists have indicated that more consistent precipitation is needed to fully alleviate drought concerns. With no significant rain expected until mid-week, communities in northern Illinois may continue to feel the effects of the drought.

Cities like Elgin and Buffalo Grove also saw moderate rainfall amounts, with over 0.90 inches recorded. As the dry spell persists, farmers, homeowners, and local officials remain hopeful for more rain to further ease conditions.

Despite this, dry weather is likely to continue into early November.
