Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – Powerful coastal winds will sweep across the Carolina shoreline Monday, with gusts strong enough to knock down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages from Wilmington to Myrtle Beach.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday for coastal communities in southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina, including Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surf City, Carolina Beach, and Georgetown.
Forecasters expect south winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, which could make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles traveling along exposed coastal roads such as U.S. Highway 17 and bridges along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Loose outdoor items may be blown around, and falling branches could lead to scattered power outages during the afternoon.
Looking ahead, forecasters are also warning of a sharp temperature drop later this week. A Freeze Watch is in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning across much of southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina, where temperatures could dip into the upper 20s.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects today and begin protecting sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing ahead of the potential freeze midweek.
