Indianapolis, Indiana – Summer warmth will make a strong comeback across Indiana this Mother’s Day weekend, with highs soaring into the 80s by Sunday in Indianapolis. Families planning outdoor celebrations should take advantage of the dry, sunny conditions through Sunday before storms return Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, high pressure will keep skies clear and temperatures rising Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s high will reach 77°F under mostly sunny skies, and Mother’s Day will top out near 81°F with light easterly breezes. The weather remains ideal through Sunday evening, with only some clouds developing late.

The first signs of change arrive Monday, when a slight chance of showers enters the picture after 2 p.m. The greater concern begins Monday night, as thunderstorms become more likely along corridors including I-65 and I-70. NWS reports a 60% chance of rain after 8 p.m., with the potential for gusty winds and lightning across Marion, Hendricks, and Johnson counties.

Travelers and commuters should monitor updates if heading out Monday night or early Tuesday, especially with lingering rain expected through Tuesday afternoon. Keep phones charged and have alternate plans in place if severe storms materialize.

The five-day outlook remains unsettled beyond Monday. Rain chances persist into Wednesday (40%) and Thursday (20%), with temps holding in the high 70s to near 80°F. Thunderstorms may still pop up midweek, though less widespread.
