Morehead City, NC – Residents across Eastern North Carolina are waking up to foggy and damp conditions this morning as a cold front sweeps through the region, bringing scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder before clearing later in the day.
According to the National Weather Service in Newport/Morehead City, patchy fog will quickly dissipate as the front moves east, ushering in brief rainfall and the potential for isolated thunderstorms. Some stronger storms may produce gusty winds or a waterspout near coastal areas.
By midday, the front is expected to push offshore, leading to clearing skies and warmer temperatures across the region. Highs are forecast to reach the low to mid-70s this afternoon, creating a noticeable warm-up after the damp start.
Residents in Greenville, New Bern, and along the Crystal Coast can expect improving conditions by early afternoon, with a mild and pleasant evening ahead. The NWS advises caution for early commuters due to patchy fog and wet roads.
