Billings, MT – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains and Crazy Mountains from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected to create dangerous conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, snowfall totals between 8 and 18 inches are expected, with wind gusts reaching 65 mph. These conditions will cause widespread blowing snow, leading to significantly reduced visibility and hazardous travel in the high country, including areas around Cooke City.
Outdoor recreation will be dangerous due to rapidly changing conditions, deep snow accumulation, and whiteout conditions. Another round of heavy snow is forecast from Sunday night through Wednesday, further impacting the region.
