Billings, Montana – Drivers across south-central Montana could face dangerously low visibility through 9 a.m. Wednesday as dense fog settles along the foothills, including stretches of I-90 and U.S. 212.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, areas of patchy but locally dense fog are developing early this morning, particularly near Livingston, Red Lodge, and the outskirts of Bozeman. Conditions may also extend into north-central Wyoming, impacting communities such as Sheridan and Cody. Visibility may rapidly drop to a quarter mile or less, especially in low-lying and rural areas.

Morning commuters should expect slower travel times and unpredictable visibility. Transportation officials urge drivers to allow extra time, use low beams, and avoid sudden stops. Roads may be slick from overnight condensation, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces.

This is the first widespread fog event of May for the region, arriving amid otherwise mild spring conditions. Visibility should improve by mid-morning as sunlight breaks through and temperatures rise.

More updates will be issued if fog persists or redevelops. Until then, motorists are urged to drive with caution and check local conditions before heading out.
