Livingston, Montana – Strong southwest winds are creating hazardous travel conditions across south central Montana Saturday, with powerful gusts expected to continue through Sunday afternoon, especially along Interstate 90 and the Beartooth Foothills.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. MST Sunday for the Livingston area and the Beartooth Foothills. Southwest winds are frequently gusting between 50 and 60 mph, strong enough to make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles and create sudden crosswinds on exposed roadways.

Winds are expected to increase through Saturday afternoon and evening, with the most dangerous travel conditions developing along I-90 between Livingston and Big Timber. Areas near Fishtail, McLeod, Nye, Limestone, and Dean will also experience strong, persistent gusts capable of blowing around unsecured objects and making rural roads hazardous.

Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon will remain windy, with little improvement expected until after 5 p.m. Even after the advisory expires, forecasters note that strong winds may continue Sunday night and persist into Tuesday, particularly in wind-prone foothill locations.

Drivers of semis, campers, and other high-profile vehicles are urged to use extra caution or delay travel if possible. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and remain alert for changing conditions. Additional wind advisories may be issued if gusts remain stronger or longer than currently expected.
