Grand Junction, CO — Winter weather conditions are set to impact Colorado’s high mountain corridors through Monday morning, as snow showers and rain move into the region. Residents and travelers should prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, especially along major roadways like I-70. The National Weather Service has issued advisories indicating that snow accumulation could impact travel, with significant snowfall expected in mountain passes and adjacent areas.

According to the US National Weather Service in Grand Junction, snow showers will spread across the region, peaking Sunday evening and continuing through early Tuesday morning. Locations such as Vail Pass could see snow accumulations of up to 9 inches, while Monarch Pass may receive between 8 to 12 inches. Lower elevations, including parts of Grand Junction, may experience lighter snowfall or rain showers, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s.

As colder air moves in, residents should anticipate cooler temperatures to settle in throughout the week. Monday will see highs near 51°F under partly sunny skies, but the potential for rain and snow returns Tuesday night, continuing through Wednesday. The National Weather Service emphasizes that drivers should be cautious, as winter driving conditions could create delays and increased risk on mountain routes.

With temperatures expected to remain in the low 30s during nighttime hours and fluctuating between the low 40s and 50s during the day, it is crucial to plan for variable weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay informed of weather updates and prepare for winter travel, including carrying chains or winter tires if venturing into higher elevation areas.
