Lake Charles, LA – A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of Louisiana and southeast Texas, effective from midnight Monday through midnight Tuesday. The storm is expected to bring heavy mixed precipitation, with snow and sleet accumulations between 4 and 6 inches and ice accumulations up to 0.02 inches.

According to the National Weather Service, winds could gust as high as 35 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions, especially during the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. The warning covers central, south-central, southwest, and west-central Louisiana, as well as portions of southeast Texas.

The storm poses significant risks, particularly south of the I-10 corridor to the Gulf Coast, where icy roads and reduced visibility are anticipated. Officials urge residents to stay indoors if possible and delay non-essential travel.

For those who must venture out, safety precautions include dressing in layers and carrying an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution and monitor road conditions by calling 511.

Residents are encouraged to prepare now for potential power outages and disruptions. Additional updates will be provided as the storm progresses.
