Eureka, CA – A prolonged stretch of moderate to heavy rain will impact Northern California beginning late Wednesday night, raising the risk of roadway flooding and minor stream surges through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, rainfall will intensify starting at 11 p.m. Wednesday and persist until 11 p.m. Friday, with the heaviest totals expected in northern Humboldt and Del Norte counties, as well as the windward slopes of the King Range. These areas could see rainfall totals surpassing 2.5 inches, while Mendocino, Lake, and Trinity counties are forecast to receive lighter, though still measurable, precipitation.

The storm is associated with a low-pressure system approaching from the Pacific, bringing sustained moisture and unstable atmospheric conditions. Rainfall rates may periodically spike, causing ponding on roads and minor flooding in small creeks and streams, particularly in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads and remain alert for potential flooded routes. Residents in flood-prone zones should monitor local alerts and consider protective measures. While no major river flooding is forecast, urban areas could experience temporary hazards during peak rainfall periods.
