Kansas City, MO – A brief warmup in Kansas City today will give way to colder temperatures and potential snow by Thursday evening. Residents should prepare for slippery roadways and changing conditions as a cold front pushes into the region.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-30s today before dropping into the teens overnight. A dusting of snow is possible this evening in areas north of Interstate 70, including Kansas City, Chillicothe, and Moberly. Winds may gust as high as 24 mph, reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions.
Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies but colder temperatures, with a high near 24°F and overnight lows plummeting to 9°F. Winds will remain steady, making it feel even colder. Drivers commuting Thursday morning or evening should remain cautious, as icy patches may linger on bridges and less-traveled roads.
Looking ahead, Friday will warm slightly, with highs reaching 37°F under mostly sunny skies. Saturday offers the warmest conditions this week, with highs near 40°F, but nighttime lows will remain in the low 20s. By Sunday, temperatures will dip again, with highs near 35°F and partly sunny skies.
The week’s pattern of fluctuating temperatures and light precipitation could cause minor disruptions to travel. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and allow extra time for commutes.
Be sure to check on elderly neighbors or those without proper heating as overnight lows remain dangerously cold throughout the week.
