Kansas City, MO – Frigid temperatures grip Kansas City today, but relief is in sight as warmer weather arrives this weekend. Morning lows dropped to the low 20s, with wind chills dipping into the single digits due to gusty northwest winds.

According to the National Weather Service, today’s high will only reach 31 degrees, a 20-degree drop from earlier this week. However, sunny skies and easing winds are expected, creating a calmer day overall. By Saturday, temperatures will climb to a high of 39, with sunny conditions and light southeast winds around 5 mph.

Sunday promises further warmth, with highs near 49 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Mild overnight lows in the upper 30s will precede a potential high of 52 degrees on Monday. While Christmas week looks mild overall, a chance of rain looms by Thursday, with highs near 50.

Motorists should take care on elevated roadways like I-70 this morning, where residual moisture from last night’s cold front could create icy spots. With breezy conditions easing, outdoor activities should be manageable this weekend.

Stay tuned for updates on next week’s rain potential, and plan ahead for an unseasonably warm Christmas. For now, bundle up and enjoy the sun!
