Kansas City, MO — Dense fog is creating hazardous driving conditions this morning across parts of central Missouri, impacting visibility on highways like I-70 and routes east and southeast of the Kansas City Metro. Drivers are urged to use low-beam headlights, reduce speeds, and increase following distances to avoid accidents in areas with thick fog.

According to the National Weather Service, fog in the region is expected to lift by late morning, with mostly sunny skies taking over through the afternoon. Highs will reach between 53 and 58 degrees with mild northeast winds at 5-10 mph. This temporary reprieve of clear weather is forecasted to last into Friday, though rain chances return late Friday night and will likely persist through Saturday, potentially impacting Veterans Day plans.

Friday will start with partly sunny skies and a high of around 59 degrees, but clouds will increase into the evening. By Friday night, showers are expected to develop, especially after midnight, with a 50% chance of rain. East-southeast winds may gust up to 18 mph as this weather system moves through the area. Rain is anticipated to continue into Saturday, tapering off by Saturday night.

Despite the wet start to the weekend, Veterans Day on Sunday looks clear and sunny, with highs expected around 65 degrees, ideal for outdoor ceremonies and commemorative events across the city. The warming trend will extend into next week, with sunny skies and temperatures climbing near 67 degrees by Tuesday.

Residents should stay tuned to local forecasts for updates on rain timing and visibility conditions, particularly for those planning to travel or attend events. The National Weather Service advises extra caution on roads, especially in low-lying areas and near bridges where fog and slick spots are more likely.
