Missouri – Bitterly cold temperatures will grip the state through Tuesday, with wind chills plummeting to as low as -15°F in Springfield and surrounding areas. Residents should prepare for dangerously low conditions, especially overnight, as a cold weather advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures will range between 3°F and 21°F Monday night into Tuesday morning, with wind chills dipping well below zero. Winds from 5-10 mph will exacerbate the freezing conditions, increasing the risk of frostbite and hypothermia for those exposed to the cold.

Missouri highways, including I-44, could see icy patches due to freezing temperatures. Drivers should exercise caution and allow extra time for their commutes. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activity.

A gradual warming trend is expected by midweek. Highs on Wednesday will rise to near 40°F, with sunshine breaking through. By Friday, daytime temperatures in Springfield and across the Ozarks may reach the upper 40s, offering some relief from the Arctic chill.

Until then, local officials urge residents to check on elderly neighbors and ensure pets have adequate shelter. For those traveling, preparedness kits, including blankets and water, are advised in case of roadside emergencies.

Stay tuned to the National Weather Service for updates on evolving conditions.
