Springfield, MO – Patchy dense fog across south-central Missouri, including I-44, is creating hazardous travel conditions early Saturday morning. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low beams, and allow extra travel time as visibility drops below half a mile in many areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday, primarily impacting travelers along major roadways, including I-44. The low visibility may cause delays, especially in areas near Joplin, Osage Beach, and Springfield. Fog is expected to gradually clear by late morning as temperatures rise toward a high of 57 degrees.
Saturday afternoon brings a 20% chance of light showers from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., followed by patchy fog returning overnight. Overnight lows will hover around 45 degrees, with light southeast winds keeping conditions cool.
Sunday will bring clearer skies and mostly sunny weather, offering a welcome break for outdoor plans. Highs will reach near 59 degrees, with west winds picking up to 11 mph by late afternoon. The New Year’s week ahead starts with a mild Monday, reaching 61 degrees, before temperatures dip as low as 25 degrees by Tuesday night.
Travelers and residents are advised to stay updated on weather changes, especially with wind gusts up to 30 mph predicted by Tuesday. Drivers should also prepare for icy morning commutes next week as temperatures drop into the teens.
