Jefferson City, Missouri – A slow-moving storm system is expected to dump up to 6 inches of rain across parts of Missouri through Saturday, bringing a significant flash flooding risk to much of the state.
According to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center, widespread thunderstorms fueled by tropical moisture will impact Missouri from Sunday evening, June 1, through Saturday, June 8. The heaviest rain is forecast along a corridor stretching from Springfield through Columbia to St. Louis, where repeated rounds of storms could overwhelm creeks, rivers, and storm drains.
In Kansas City, localized flooding is possible on I-70 and U.S. Route 50, especially during rush hours. Columbia may see 4 to 5 inches of rainfall by midweek, with Boone and Callaway counties at elevated risk. In the St. Louis metro, residents near the River Des Peres and Meramec River should monitor water levels closely.
Missourians are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads, charge mobile devices, and prepare emergency kits. Flash Flood Watches are expected to expand statewide as the event unfolds.
Rain and storm chances will continue daily through Saturday. Additional warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
