St. Louis, Missouri – Strong thunderstorms could roll across much of Missouri by late Wednesday afternoon, bringing threats of damaging wind, hail, and a possible tornado or two through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) for severe storms is in effect through tonight across central and eastern Missouri, as well as portions of western Illinois. Storms may begin developing after 4 p.m. and could impact cities including St. Louis, Columbia, Hannibal, and Cape Girardeau.

Primary hazards include wind gusts strong enough to knock down tree limbs and power lines, hail up to one inch, and isolated flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Drivers along I-70, I-44, and I-55 should stay weather-aware and prepare for rapidly changing road conditions.

Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive warnings and know their safe shelter locations ahead of time. Charge devices, secure outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.

Storm activity is expected to taper off overnight, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for updates from the NWS St. Louis.
