Springfield, Missouri – Torrential rain and dangerous flooding conditions are expected to continue into Thursday across southwest Missouri, with rural roads and major routes like U.S. Route 60 and Route 13 at high risk for water overflows.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday morning, as repeated thunderstorms drop 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, with isolated higher amounts. Areas around Springfield, Branson, Republic, and Marshfield face the greatest impacts from flash flooding.

Low-water crossings, creeks, and poorly drained areas may flood rapidly. Commuters and school routes could be disrupted. Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads and “never attempt to drive through water-covered pavement.”

Thursday brings continued rain chances, especially early. Skies will remain mostly cloudy with a high near 78°F. Winds shift to light and variable, but additional storms are possible late Thursday night, carrying lightning and brief heavy downpours.

By Friday, storm activity increases again, especially in the afternoon. Some storms may be strong, adding to already saturated ground and increasing runoff risk.
