St. Louis, MO – Rain and thunderstorms will return to Missouri midweek, with the potential for severe weather Thursday night into Friday, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis.

According to NWS St. Louis, multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across the state beginning Wednesday and continuing into the weekend. While not every area will experience rain daily, central and northeast Missouri face the highest risk of strong to severe thunderstorms late Thursday into early Friday. West-central Illinois is also included in the area of concern.

These storms could bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding. Residents in affected regions, including Columbia, Hannibal, and Quincy, IL, are advised to stay weather-aware and monitor local alerts as conditions evolve.

Though the forecast doesn’t suggest a complete washout, the repeated waves of rain may impact outdoor activities and early holiday weekend travel. Drivers should prepare for wet roads and reduced visibility during storm periods.

The National Weather Service encourages the public to review severe weather safety plans and ensure NOAA weather radios are active. Updates will be provided as confidence increases in the timing and intensity of the storm system.
