St. Louis, MO – A severe weather threat is building across eastern Missouri as forecasters warn of strong to severe thunderstorms late Friday afternoon through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the greatest risk will occur between late Friday morning and Friday evening, as a cold front sweeps into the region. Storms may produce wind gusts reaching 60 mph, hail up to 1 inch in diameter, and localized heavy rainfall.

The highest threat area includes St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County, and surrounding communities. Officials urge residents to monitor updates frequently, as timing and storm intensity may shift with developing conditions.

“Details change rapidly,” the NWS advisory stated. “Have multiple ways to receive warnings.”

Friday’s storms follow a warmer, humid air mass ahead of the front, increasing instability across the state. While Missouri averages spring thunderstorms, this event poses higher-than-usual risks due to potential wind damage and hail.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid travel during storm activity, and prepare for possible power outages. More updates will be issued as models refine the forecast.
