Kansas City, Missouri – Residents west of I-35 in Missouri should prepare for severe thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the risk of large hail and wind gusts reaching 60 miles per hour. Damaging winds and hail up to the size of half dollars could impact communities including St. Joseph, Platte City, and the Kansas City metro’s western suburbs.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, isolated storms developing this evening could quickly intensify, especially west of I-35. Key travel routes such as I-29 and U.S. Highway 36 may be affected by heavy rainfall and hazardous driving conditions. Additional rounds of showers and storms are expected to continue through Monday, with locally heavy rainfall possible Thursday night—particularly along and west of Highway 65, where more than one inch of rain is possible.

Drivers are urged to stay weather aware, monitor local alerts, and avoid travel during severe storms if possible. Charge devices and have flashlights ready in case of power outages. This marks the first significant hail threat of the spring for northwest Missouri, and further advisories could be issued if storms develop on Monday.

Stay tuned for updates as warnings remain possible through the week.
