Springfield, Missouri – Strong storms packing heavy rain and flash flooding potential will grip southwest Missouri through Wednesday morning, creating hazardous driving conditions on major roads like I-44 and Highway 65.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Flood Watch remains in effect until noon Wednesday, with rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches expected across the region. Isolated locations may see up to 5 inches. Flash flooding of low-water crossings, creeks, and streams is possible, especially in flood-prone areas near Springfield, Rolla, and Lebanon.

Storms will intensify overnight Tuesday and continue into early Wednesday. Peak rainfall will hit before noon Wednesday, with scattered thunderstorms possible later in the day. Wind gusts up to 28 mph may accompany stronger cells. Visibility may also drop rapidly during heavy downpours, making morning travel dangerous.

Flood-prone zones near Lamar, West Plains, and Fort Leonard Wood are urged to monitor rising water and avoid submerged roads. If you live near low-lying areas or small streams, stay alert. Emergency crews may struggle to reach flooded rural routes.

This weather marks one of the heaviest early June rainfall events since 2021. Preparedness is key: charge devices, delay travel if possible, and check local alerts before heading out.

Warnings remain in effect through noon Wednesday. Additional alerts may follow if storms linger beyond expected windows.
