St. Louis, Missouri – Heavy thunderstorms rolling through Missouri Tuesday evening could trigger flash flooding across central and northeast regions, with the highest risk expected through midnight.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the most dangerous storms are expected between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., with isolated damaging winds and downpours continuing into the overnight hours. Flash flood conditions are most likely from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m., especially in counties including Audrain, Boone, Marion, and Monroe.
Wind gusts could reach 70 mph, with quarter-sized hail reported in some cells. The threat of tornadoes remains low, but the risk of localized flooding is moderate, particularly in low-lying and urban areas. Residents along Highway 63 and Interstate 70 should be alert for water over roads, especially in areas that have seen recent rainfall.
Motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to keep multiple methods of receiving emergency alerts active overnight. Utility disruptions and tree damage are also possible due to high winds.
The flash flood risk is expected to taper off after midnight, but more storm activity may return midweek.
