Kansas City, Missouri – A quieter and drier stretch of winter weather is expected across western and northern Missouri beginning Thursday, with precipitation chances trending below normal while temperatures remain close to seasonal averages through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, northern and western Missouri are forecast to see below-normal precipitation from Thursday through Monday. Storm systems are expected to track well east and south of the region, limiting opportunities for meaningful rainfall or wintry precipitation during this period.

Western Missouri, including Kansas City, St. Joseph, Liberty, and surrounding metro communities, is expected to see mostly dry conditions with periods of sunshine and passing clouds. Daytime temperatures should remain typical for mid-January, while overnight lows dip into seasonable ranges. The drier air mass will allow for noticeable temperature swings between day and night, especially outside the urban core.

Across northern Missouri, including Maryville, Chillicothe, Kirksville, Trenton, and Macon, dry conditions are also expected to dominate. Cloud cover may increase at times, but precipitation chances remain limited. Agricultural areas may continue to see soils dry slightly as the lack of moisture persists.

Travel conditions are expected to remain favorable along major corridors such as Interstate 29, Interstate 35, Interstate 70, and U.S. Highway 36, with no widespread weather-related disruptions anticipated. Winds are not expected to be a major concern, helping keep conditions stable across the region.

While the dry stretch may be beneficial for travel and outdoor plans, residents should continue to monitor updates in case the broader weather pattern shifts. For now, the below-normal precipitation trend is expected to persist into early next week, with any meaningful rain chances likely holding off beyond this period.
