Springfield, MO – High winds and a multi-day storm system are expected to impact Missouri starting Thursday, bringing gusts up to 45 mph and increasing risks of heavy rainfall and localized flooding through Sunday night.

According to the US National Weather Service in Springfield, gusty southerly winds will begin developing Thursday morning, with the strongest conditions west of Highway 65. Peak gusts between 35 to 45 mph may cause travel disruptions and blow unsecured outdoor items.

From Friday through Sunday, the region will see increased chances of thunderstorms and persistent rainfall. Daily rain chances rise from 60% on Friday to 90% by Saturday. Temperatures will fluctuate widely—from highs in the low 80s to cooler 50s and 60s over the weekend.

Roadway flooding is a growing concern, especially in low-lying areas. Officials urge residents to avoid flooded roads, heed barricade warnings, and delay non-essential travel when possible.

This unsettled weather period marks a significant shift from typical mid-April conditions. The National Weather Service advises monitoring local alerts and preparing for potential power outages or flash flooding in vulnerable counties, especially west of Highway 65.

Storm conditions may extend through Sunday evening, with lingering effects possible into early Monday.
