Missouri Tornadoes April 20: Carl Junction, Lamar Hit by EF-1 and EF-0 Twisters Sunday

Springfield, Missouri – Two tornadoes touched down in southwest Missouri on Sunday, bringing winds up to 90 mph and damaging homes, trees, and businesses across Jasper and Barton counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, an EF-1 tornado tracked from eastern Cherokee County, Kansas, into Carl Junction, Missouri, between 1:57 and 2:22 p.m. April 20. The 23.5-mile path brought down trees and powerlines, with EF-1 damage confirmed near County Road 210 and Highway N in Jasper County. No injuries were reported.

A second tornado, rated EF-0, struck Barton County shortly after, traveling 19.7 miles through Lamar before lifting near Milford. Peak winds hit 81 mph, damaging more than 20 homes and businesses. Witnesses described it as a rain-wrapped tornado, with debris scattered in multiple neighborhoods.

Residents are urged to remain alert, as survey teams continue reviewing storm data and damage paths. Additional updates are expected as the National Weather Service finalizes its assessments.
