Kansas City, Missouri – Thunderstorms and flash flooding could disrupt midweek travel across Kansas City as Missouri braces for an active spring weather pattern.
According to the National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill, storms with heavy rain and possible hail are expected to develop by this evening, with chances continuing through Friday. The main concern is along the Missouri River, where water levels are elevated and may crest within 48 hours. Isolated strong storms could produce damaging wind gusts and hail up to one inch in diameter, especially north of I-70 Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Rain chances begin Wednesday afternoon with scattered storms and increase significantly by Wednesday night. Thursday carries the highest threat, with up to an inch of rain possible during the day. Drivers along I-70 and I-435 should prepare for ponding water and reduced visibility during commutes. Residents in low-lying areas near the river should remain alert for rising water and updated flood advisories.
By Friday, showers will linger but begin tapering off as the system moves east. Despite brief clearing by Saturday, additional rain chances return by Sunday and Monday, making this a wet and unsettled spring stretch for Kansas City and surrounding counties.
