Springfield, Mo. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to intensify across southwest Missouri late Sunday into early Monday, bringing threats of large hail, damaging winds, and localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Marginal to Slight Risk (Level 1–2 of 5) is in place for much of the region, including Joplin, Bolivar, and Branson. While daytime storms carry a low chance of becoming severe, the window between 8 p.m. Sunday and 4 a.m. Monday is of greatest concern, with golf ball-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph possible.
Communities from Nevada to West Plains may experience multiple storm rounds overnight, with a few isolated tornadoes not ruled out. Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, especially in low-lying or urban areas. Roads like I-44 and US-60 could see brief closures or hazardous conditions during peak storm hours.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, charge mobile devices, and secure outdoor items before storms arrive. Those in flood-prone zones should be ready to move to higher ground.
Severe weather warnings remain in effect overnight, and additional alerts may be issued as the system tracks eastward through Monday morning.
