Kansas City, MO – Severe thunderstorms could erupt across Missouri Monday afternoon, bringing the threat of large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes to areas primarily north of I-70.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, storms are expected to begin developing by late Monday afternoon and continue into the evening, with the greatest risk of severe activity during the daylight hours. Areas such as Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Chillicothe sit in an enhanced risk zone, where isolated supercells could bring dangerous conditions.

Monday evening into the night, a cold front will sweep through the region, increasing storm coverage but reducing the likelihood of intense storms. Locations like Warrensburg, Sedalia, and Columbia could see more widespread thunderstorms with a lower risk of becoming severe.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and monitor alerts throughout the day Monday. Secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and identify safe shelter locations in advance. Drivers should avoid travel during storms, especially in areas prone to flash flooding.

This storm system could be the region’s most significant severe weather event so far this spring. Watches or warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
