St. Louis, Missouri – Damaging winds and large hail could strike central Missouri Monday afternoon as a second round of severe thunderstorms sweeps through the region, raising the risk for tornadoes and flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) covers much of central and eastern Missouri from early Monday afternoon through the evening. Cities under the highest threat include Jefferson City, Columbia, Rolla, and St. Charles. A weaker line of storms is expected to move through overnight Sunday into early Monday, but the most dangerous weather is forecast for later in the day.

Storms could produce hail the size of golf balls, damaging wind gusts above 60 mph, and isolated tornadoes. Travel on I-70, I-44, and U.S. Route 63 could be disrupted by flash flooding or debris. Power outages and tree damage are also possible.

Residents should have multiple ways to receive warnings and identify a safe shelter in advance. If you lose power, charge mobile devices now and avoid flooded roads.

Severe weather threats will taper off late Monday night, but updated watches and warnings may be issued throughout the day.
