Springfield, MO is bracing for a busy weekend of spring weather as strong winds and the possibility of rain make their way through the region. Starting Friday, March 21, a Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. due to high winds, low humidity, and dry conditions. Winds will gust between 35 to 45 mph, heightening fire risks, so outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures in Springfield will reach a high of 66°F on Friday, but the wind will make it feel much cooler. Saturday brings an increased chance of rain, with up to an 80% chance of showers by the evening, particularly after 5 p.m. Winds will continue to gust, reaching up to 24 mph.

By Sunday, temperatures will remain mild in the high 60s, and the chance of rain diminishes as clouds clear. However, a 40% chance of light showers is still forecast for areas around Springfield before 1 p.m.

In addition to the fire weather concerns, there is a high probability of thunderstorms on Saturday night with gusty winds and rainfall. For those planning outdoor activities or travel around the Springfield area, caution is advised, especially between Friday afternoon and Saturday night.

For anyone in the region, it’s important to stay prepared for quickly changing conditions and make sure any outdoor fires are extinguished. Keep an eye on local updates, especially for fire weather advisories, and make sure you have plans in place should severe weather move in unexpectedly.
