Springfield, Missouri – Chances for thunderstorms and repeated showers are set to linger across Missouri through Sunday, raising concerns for minor flooding, especially in western counties that saw heavy rain last weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, areas across western Missouri and along the Kansas border—including Joplin, Nevada, and Springfield—can expect periods of rain with totals ranging from 0.25 to 0.5 inches by Sunday evening. While the rain won’t be constant, repeated rounds may quickly saturate soils and lead to rises along small streams and rivers.

Drivers along I-44 and U.S. 71 should watch for water on roads, particularly in low-lying spots and near flood-prone creeks. Some neighborhoods in Springfield, Monett, and Lamar may experience brief localized flooding with heavier downpours. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid walking or driving through flooded roadways and to monitor local alerts.

Those in recently soaked areas should stay alert, charge devices, and be prepared for rapid changes in conditions. Rain chances will taper off Sunday night, but additional advisories are possible if storm rounds intensify. Warnings remain in effect across much of southwest Missouri through Sunday.
