Paducah, KY – A surge of summer-like storms is bringing waves of rain and thunder to communities along the Missouri-Kentucky border, with the heaviest activity expected Friday afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, rainfall chances will peak at 85% to 95% Friday between noon and 6 p.m. in cities like Cape Girardeau, MO, and Fulton, KY. Though widespread severe weather isn’t expected, forecasters caution that a few storms could intensify and bring gusty winds or brief downpours.
In Missouri, Cape Girardeau could see storms ramping up by midday Friday, continuing through the evening before tapering off into Saturday. Across the river in Fulton and Hickman Counties, KY, residents are looking at a near-certainty of rain Friday afternoon, with a 90% chance lasting into the night. Poplar Bluff and Marion, KY, also face elevated rain chances, creating slick roads and reduced visibility for drivers.
Officials urge residents to plan around the storms, avoid non-essential travel during peak rain periods, and keep devices charged in case of localized outages. While temperatures remain warm, the moisture could create muggy and uncomfortable conditions through the weekend.
Additional thunderstorm chances are expected to return Tuesday into Wednesday next week.
