Missouri–Kansas – A crisp sunrise spreads over the Kansas City skyline this morning as cold air lingers across the metro. Temperatures hover near 32°F, but a noticeable warmup is already building across the central Plains.
Sunshine dominates the sky today, and the air begins to feel more like early spring. Temperatures climb quickly toward 59°F this afternoon across both sides of the state line.
Light southwest winds increase through the day. Gusts could reach around 30 mph by late afternoon, especially along exposed highways such as Interstate 70, Interstate 35, and Interstate 435.
Drivers should expect breezy conditions but dry pavement for most of the day. Outdoor plans will benefit from sunshine and steadily warming air.
Skies remain mostly clear tonight as temperatures fall to around 44°F across the Kansas City metro.
Mild weather continues into the end of the week. Sunshine returns with highs near 58°F, keeping the region comfortably above freezing during the daytime.
Spring warmth becomes more noticeable heading into the weekend. Saturday brings partly sunny skies and temperatures climbing toward 69°F, one of the warmest days of the upcoming stretch.
However, meteorologists are already tracking the next storm system approaching the Plains. Clouds increase late Saturday night as moisture begins moving north.
Rain likely develops Sunday before colder air wraps into the system. By Sunday night, rain could mix with or change to snow, especially as strong winds develop behind the cold front.
Blustery conditions may continue into early next week as colder air briefly returns before another warmup later in March.
Spring break travel across the Midwest continues to ramp up this time of year. Travelers along I-70 and I-35 should monitor conditions heading into the Sunday system.
