St. Louis, Missouri – Drivers across eastern Missouri and southern Illinois could face flooded roadways and strong crosswinds during the April 1–7 period as repeated storm systems track along the Mississippi River corridor, increasing the risk of delays on I-70, I-64, and I-55.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this region sits within a 40–60% probability zone for heavy precipitation, with surrounding areas trending even higher toward the Great Lakes. A slight risk of high winds also extends across both states, with stronger gust potential developing west of the Mississippi but still impacting travel across Missouri and Illinois.

Rainfall totals between 2 and 4 inches are possible, particularly in cities like St. Louis, Springfield, Belleville, and Carbondale. Low-lying roads and flood-prone areas could see rapid water accumulation, while the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers may experience rising levels through the period. MoDOT and IDOT may issue alerts if standing water begins to impact major interstates and secondary roads.

Wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph are possible at times, especially across open stretches of highway and bridges spanning the Mississippi River. These conditions could create hazardous travel for high-profile vehicles and increase the risk of isolated power outages.

Temperatures are expected to run above normal, keeping precipitation in the form of rain and fueling repeated storm development.

This active pattern will persist through April 1–7, with additional advisories or localized flood warnings possible as conditions evolve.
