Springfield, Mo. – Campers and residents near Caplinger Mills should prepare for rising water levels along the Sac River starting Wednesday evening, as a Flood Watch goes into effect for Cedar County.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the Sac River near Caplinger Mills is expected to rise and may reach its 16-foot flood stage by late Wednesday night. As of Tuesday morning, the river stood at 12.2 feet. The watch remains active through early Friday, with minor flooding possible at the campground and nearby low-lying areas.
If the river reaches flood stage, water could inundate portions of the campground, limiting access and creating hazardous conditions for recreational activities. Officials urge residents to remain alert and avoid areas prone to flooding, especially overnight when river levels could rise rapidly.
Motorists should never attempt to drive through water-covered roads, and campers in flood-prone zones are encouraged to relocate to higher ground ahead of the potential overflow.
Further updates are expected by 7 p.m. Tuesday as the situation develops.
