Shannon County, MO — Flash flood warnings are in effect across south-central Missouri this morning as thunderstorms produce heavy rainfall, posing severe flooding risks in multiple areas. As of 7:42 a.m., the National Weather Service in Springfield reported rainfall between 2 to 4 inches in parts of Shannon County, with flash flooding expected to intensify. Major towns impacted include Birch Tree, Eminence, and Summersville.
According to radar reports, the continuous downpour could overwhelm small creeks, urban areas, highways, and other low-lying regions. Dangerous conditions are likely at specific low-water crossings, including Pine Hollow at Highway E and Big Creek at County Road 390. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roads and seek alternate routes as conditions worsen.
Local law enforcement has echoed warnings, emphasizing that “turn around, don’t drown” is critical advice during such high-risk conditions. Flooding of roadways is particularly hazardous in hilly terrain, where low water crossings become especially treacherous. Officials are monitoring the situation closely as additional rainfall could increase flooding risk through the morning.
