Springfield, MO – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for much of southwest Missouri on Monday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., with strong winds and dry conditions increasing wildfire risks.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, wind gusts between 30-40 mph and relative humidity levels as low as 15-25% could lead to rapid fire spread. The alert covers multiple counties, including Springfield, Joplin, and surrounding areas. A Red Flag Warning may be issued if conditions worsen.

Officials strongly advise against outdoor burning and urge residents to avoid activities that generate sparks, such as using open flames or discarding cigarettes improperly. Parking on dry grass is also discouraged.

The combination of strong winds and low humidity creates a high-risk environment for wildfires. Residents should remain vigilant and follow local advisories. Emergency responders are on standby, and updates will be provided as conditions evolve.
