Kansas City, MO – Residents in Kansas City and across Missouri are facing dangerously cold conditions this week, with wind chill values dropping as low as -15 degrees. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of sub-zero temperatures continuing through Thursday morning, creating a significant risk for frostbite and hypothermia.
According to the NWS, wind chill values are expected to fall between -5 and -15 degrees each morning, with high temperatures barely reaching the teens. Tonight, lows will plunge to 0 degrees, with wind chills remaining at dangerous levels. Areas along I-70 and local roadways may see additional challenges due to freezing winds, making travel and outdoor activities hazardous.
The cold spell will persist, with Tuesday’s high only reaching 19 degrees and wind chill values remaining below zero. By midweek, Wednesday’s high is forecast at 17 degrees, with slightly warmer conditions arriving Thursday as temperatures rise to 27 degrees.
While no snow is expected, the bitter cold demands precautions. The NWS advises wearing insulated clothing, gloves, and hats to protect against frostbite. Limit time outdoors, and check on elderly neighbors or those without reliable heat.
Warmer conditions are forecast to return Friday, with highs near 31 degrees expected into the weekend. Until then, residents should prepare for an extended stretch of arctic air and follow all weather-related advisories for safety.
