St. Louis, MO – Bitter cold is set to descend across Missouri starting tonight, bringing wind chills well below zero through Tuesday morning. Residents in northeast Missouri, west-central Illinois, and the St. Louis metro area are urged to prepare for dangerously cold conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis, single-digit temperatures combined with northwest winds will result in wind chills as low as -10°F to -15°F overnight, especially along highways such as I-70 and I-55. The coldest conditions are expected in the early morning hours, making outdoor activity hazardous without proper protection. Frostbite and hypothermia are real threats for those venturing outside without adequate clothing.

Sunday morning will see highs near 18°F, but strong winds will maintain subzero wind chills throughout the day. Overnight lows are forecast to drop into the single digits, continuing the freeze through Monday and Tuesday. Residents should wear layered clothing, limit time outside, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

The extended forecast shows some relief midweek, with temperatures expected to rise into the 30s by Wednesday. However, the NWS warns that icy road conditions could persist, especially during the early morning hours. Motorists should exercise caution and allow extra time for travel.

Be sure to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare your home for the extreme cold by sealing drafts and ensuring adequate heating. Pets should also be brought indoors during this prolonged cold snap.
