Jackson, Mississippi – Spring 2026 could turn up the heat early across Mississippi, with above normal temperatures increasing the odds of summerlike afternoons well before June.

According to NOAA’s Seasonal Temperature Outlook released February 19, Mississippi sits in a region strongly favored for above normal temperatures during March-April-May 2026. The Deep South shows one of the more confident warm signals nationwide, pointing toward a milder-than-average spring statewide.

In Jackson and central Mississippi, that could mean a quicker climb into the 80s during April, with several warm stretches possible as early as March. While passing cold fronts will still sweep through, sustained cool periods appear less likely under the seasonal signal.

North Mississippi, including Tupelo, may see longer mild intervals between storm systems. Warmer soil temperatures could accelerate planting schedules and trigger earlier tree budding, which may also drive pollen levels higher sooner than usual.

Along the Gulf Coast, including Gulfport and Biloxi, maritime influence may moderate extreme daytime spikes at times. Even so, above normal warmth could bring earlier beach-ready conditions and rising humidity by late spring.

Southern cities such as Hattiesburg and Meridian may also experience frequent above-average afternoons, increasing early demand for air conditioning.

Overall, Mississippi appears poised for a fast-building, heat-leaning spring. Residents should prepare for rising pollen counts, earlier warm spells and the potential for multiple early-season heat spikes before summer officially begins.
