Jackson, MS – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across parts of Mississippi on Friday afternoon, with isolated storms capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters. The storms are likely to begin after 1 p.m. and last until 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The weather system is expected to affect large portions of the state, including Jackson, Meridian, Yazoo City, and Greenville. These storms may bring strong winds, potentially reaching damaging levels, as well as hail that could cause property and vehicle damage. Localized flooding may also be a concern in areas experiencing intense rainfall.

In preparation, residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, charge mobile devices, and be prepared for possible power outages. If driving, use caution and avoid areas prone to flooding. Hail could damage vehicles, crops, and trees, so taking protective measures is advised.

The National Weather Service is monitoring the situation, and further updates are expected as the storms develop. Warnings may be issued if conditions worsen.
