Rolling Fork, MS — A tornado touched down briefly Sunday evening near Rolling Fork, cutting a narrow path northwest of the town, according to National Weather Service officials.

According to the NWS Jackson office, the EF-1 tornado developed on March 23 between 7:25 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., producing peak winds of 90 mph. The twister traveled approximately 2.4 miles with a maximum width of 50 yards. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Damage survey teams confirmed the tornado’s path near the Indian Bayou area, just west and northwest of Rolling Fork. The storm emerged from a line of strong thunderstorms that moved across western Mississippi Sunday evening, triggering alerts across multiple counties.

EF-1 tornadoes are considered moderate on the Enhanced Fujita Scale but can still produce substantial damage to trees, power lines, and poorly constructed structures. Residents in the Rolling Fork area are encouraged to review emergency preparedness plans and remain alert for further severe weather this week.

While no additional severe weather is forecast through midweek, emergency officials continue monitoring for any system changes. NWS Jackson advises residents to stay connected via weather radios or alerts on mobile devices for updates.
