Jackson, MS – A dense fog advisory is in effect this morning for areas along and south of Interstate 20, with visibility expected to drop significantly until 9 a.m. CDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, MS, counties including Hattiesburg, Brookhaven, Natchez, Laurel, and Vicksburg are facing limited to elevated fog threats. Elevated zones may experience visibility of a quarter-mile or less, while areas under a limited threat could see visibility reduced to between one-half and a quarter mile.

The fog, which developed overnight, is expected to lift gradually through mid-morning. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, allow for extra travel time, and use low beam headlights in affected areas. The advisory spans key travel corridors, including portions of I-20, I-55, and U.S. Highway 49.

This morning’s fog threat is not unusual for southern Mississippi in early spring, especially with recent humidity levels and light overnight winds. Authorities warn commuters to be especially cautious in rural and low-lying areas where fog tends to settle and persist.

For ongoing updates, travelers should monitor alerts from the National Weather Service and local media. Visibility conditions are expected to improve by midmorning, but caution remains advised.
