Jackson, Miss. –Isolated severe storms are expected to develop across central and southern Mississippi this evening, with another round likely Thursday afternoon, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts and quarter-size hail.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Marginal Risk (Level 1) for severe weather is in effect for areas south of I-20 tonight, including Natchez, Brookhaven, Hattiesburg, and Jackson. Storms may begin late this evening and persist into the overnight hours.
On Thursday, the threat expands to cover nearly the entire state, including Greenwood, Meridian, and Columbus, with storms expected from early afternoon through the evening. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, isolated cells could produce gusts over 50 mph and hail up to one inch in diameter.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid unnecessary travel during storm periods. Lightning, slick roads, and downed branches could impact evening commutes and overnight conditions.
The severe weather threat diminishes heading into Friday, with a return to dry conditions expected this weekend. Additional updates or advisories may be issued if storm activity intensifies.
