Jackson, Miss. – Parts of Mississippi could see up to 7 inches of rain and isolated severe storms beginning Tuesday afternoon, with flash flooding and damaging wind gusts possible through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, an elevated threat for heavy rainfall will develop Tuesday night, especially across central and southwestern counties including Jackson, Vicksburg, and Natchez. A marginal severe storm risk also exists Tuesday afternoon into the evening for areas like Brookhaven and Bastrop, with possible hail up to quarter size and winds over 50 mph. A tornado cannot be ruled out.

Localized flash flooding is likely, particularly in low-lying and urban areas. Roads may become impassable, and minor to moderate river flooding is possible. Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid flooded roadways and remain weather-aware as conditions evolve. The heaviest rain is expected late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with continued showers into Thursday.

Daytime highs Monday are expected to remain in the upper 70s to near 80 with partly sunny skies across cities like Hattiesburg, Columbus, and Greenville.

Rain chances persist into the weekend, and additional advisories may be issued. Residents should prepare now by securing loose outdoor items and having multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
