Jackson, MS – Preliminary storm surveys confirmed five tornadoes in Mississippi following severe storms Thursday night. Two EF-1 tornadoes and three EF-0 tornadoes touched down across Newton County and near the Meridian Naval Station.

The National Weather Service in Jackson released findings Monday detailing the tornadoes’ strength and paths. The strongest tornado, with winds reaching 105 mph, tracked over nine miles near Learned. Another EF-1 tornado in Newton County, with winds of 95 mph, spanned 4.61 miles.

The storms also produced three EF-0 tornadoes. Near Hickory, an EF-0 tornado with 80 mph winds left a short 0.49-mile path. The Chunky tornado reached 90 mph, spanning 2.58 miles. The Grody Road tornado recorded peak winds of 70 mph along a 0.65-mile path.

Despite the tornadoes’ intensity, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Damage assessment teams will continue their evaluations this week, surveying additional impacted areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the tornadoes’ varying strengths and widths underscore the unpredictability of storm behavior. Communities are urged to stay alert during severe weather events and follow preparedness guidelines.

Residents in the affected regions can expect updated reports as surveys continue. For more information, the National Weather Service recommends monitoring its website and social media.
